Annotation
Tri-tovaricsha_Top-knig.ruThe plot of the book “Three Comrades” is set in the late 20’s. Germany’s economy has still not recovered from World War I, and the memory of the many soldiers of that war, keeps the memory of it. One of these are the main characters in Remarque’s Three Comrades, Robert Locamp, Otto Kester and Gottfried Lenz.
The narration of “Three Comrades” of the book is done from the person of Robbie. He falls in love with Patricia Holman, who is from a different social class. Pat responds in kind, but the crisis of the era does not allow them to be fully together. At the same time Pat is hopelessly ill and all Robby’s efforts don’t allow him to save her. Besides the friends get into the millstone of the nascent fascism that takes the life of one of the friends. But despite the large amount of tragedy in the novel, those who have read “Three Comrades” know what energy and drive to live the novel is filled with.
In creating the novel, the author took much from his own life. In addition to his own memories of the war, the novel features his first wife, Ilse Jutta Zambona. It was she who became the prototype for Pat, and their relationship with Remarque, even after their divorce, resembles that of Pat and Robbie in many ways.
“The Three Comrades is in many ways a telling book. It is one of the clearest examples of the “lost generation.” This trend brings together writers who lived through the war, but saw it differently from their fellow citizens. By the way, another striking example of works of this trend is the novel The Great Gatsby, which is also represented in our ratings.
